Although there are varying opinions of Clemson football players Bryan Bresee and Myles Murphy, both are proving to be assets.

As we approach two years since the NIL (Name, Likeness and Image) rule change, schools are adjusting. Many have created collectives, or programs that fund players in exchange for the use of their Name, Image, and Likeness in representing varying brands. Bresee and Murphy, are working with these programs in this new financial world for college athletics.

TigerImpact

The TigerImpact organization teams with local charities to raise awareness of underserved issues. The foundation has raised $5 million since launch in April of 2022. They have also signed 16 Clemson athletes within both the men’s and women’s sports teams.

TigerImpact was founded by Rich Davies, Kendall Alley and Kevin Gemas, who are all former Clemson football players. Davies thought of the idea to create the program after learning about the Nutifafa Shelter in South Africa. He felt they were not receiving the proper attention, and also realized that college athletes had new opportunities. He merged both ideas and TigerImpact was born.

“We carry out this mission by engaging donors to fund student athletes who we work with to promote underserved charities,” the Clemson alumni says.

As part of his agreement, Bresee works with the Prisma Health Children’s Hospital. Murphy is representing the George and Roszena Shaw Center for Housing and Economic Growth in South Carolina. Each player promotes their chosen organization on social media platforms, at meetings and charity events, and more.

TigerImpact works very similar to other collectives. Before signing each individual athlete, they run an NIL algorithm to determine a student-athlete’s value. Then, they negotiate the individual requirements of each athlete’s responsibilities for their NIL deal with their charity.” The organization differs in its focus on recruiting athletes interested in making a difference in community issues.

Dear Old Clemson

Dear Old Clemson was founded in June of 2022 by alumni, Robert MacRae and Jason Beaty. The program was created to support Clemson’s athletes, as well as local businesses and organizations in the area. Any fans interested in seeing their favorite players succeed can contribute.

“Dear Old Clemson will match portions of funds from local businesses that pay student-athletes to help promote their businesses,” the Clemson Wire writes.

Fans can support the Tiger Club or Lady Tiger Club, which fund the football, baseball, basketball, and softball programs. Members hope to expand to other sports in the future. Fans select which level Tiger Club member they would like to be, which determines how much they will donate. In return, they receive benefits such as customized merchandise, exclusive access to interviews and tickets, and more. These memberships range between $25 and $1,000 monthly, and $300 to $12,000 for the package with the most fan access.

Not all players are making it a priority to participate in projects that aren’t focusing on career advancements. Bresee and Murphy appear to be well grounded individuals, as well as talented athletes.
