Georgia Safety KJ Bolden Showcased Inconsistent Effort in 2025

Georgia safety KJ Bolden flashes some first-round traits. Things like his straight-line speed and physicality.
Keyword: flashes.
For the first couple of games, I was like, Oh yeah. But then he faded for the next seven games, and I felt disappointed. Then he played like he was possessed against Georgia Tech and then again against Ole Miss in the final game of the Bulldogs’ season.
Ugh.
Prospects like this are the most frustrating to study and project to the NFL.
Why?
Because they show it’s in them to do it.
But for whatever reason, it’s inconsistent, and inconsistency gets NFL teams beat.
After all⎯
Safeties are the last line of defense.
So what can I do with such a prospect as an evaluator?
Mitigate the risk with my grading.
The fact that Bolden really turned it on for 4/14 games must be taken into account.
The full body of work on film must be considered when it comes to the valuation. It’s not just about the traits.
It’s about the consistency of the traits.
Capable of being a banger in support
Keyword: Capable.
Bolden showed he can come downhill from his safety position and hammer runners. He also demonstrated the same kind of thing on pass plays.
2025 stats (ESPN)
- 76 tackles
- 32 solo
- 44 assists
But⎯
I also tallied 101 times in run support and 39 times in pass support when he just ended up around the pile and looked reluctant.
How did Bolden appear in pass coverage?
Overall⎯
He showed that he’s more of a damage control safety.
What’s that?
It’s a safety that tends to arrive after the fact- after the catch has been made and the yardage has been gained.
Keyword: tends.
Bolden was also credited with five passes defended and two interceptions in 2025.
Anything else stand out?
Yes.
Bolden looked more comfortable when he was locked up with an offensive target one-on-one rather than when he was just roaming around in center field.
Can he do it?
Yes.
But again, he doesn’t do it most of the time.
Rollercoaster season
Do I like Bolden?
Yes, but at the right valuation.
Do I love Bolden?
Yes, once in a while.
I love having a safety that can deliver bone-jarring hits and get into opponents’ heads with that intimidation factor.
Consistency.
I just need to see more consistency out of Bolden.
Pro Football Focus confirms what I was seeing on his film. Their color-coded grading system illustrates the inconsistencies they saw in his game.

Daniel Kelly’s 2026 Fall Grade: Second-Round (I would select him)
Projected by NFL Mock Draft Database to be a First-Round prospect as of October 25, 2026
2025 game film evaluated: Marshall, Austin Peay, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Auburn, Ole Miss, Florida, Mississippi State, Texas, Charlotte, Georgia Tech, Alabama, and Ole Miss (click to view games watched to form this evaluation)
Ejected for targeting vs. Florida
2027 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Projects best to be a box safety. Main issue is his motor. Paces himself. Fluid athlete. Electric movements on occasion. Tends to be too reactive to pass plays and waits until the pass is thrown to commit to the target. By then, it’s too late. When playing deeper, he didn’t get over to provide help in time to make a play on the ball (12 out of 13 times in my notes). Seldom blitzed. Didn’t generate much heat when he did. Sometimes comes downhill in a hurry to provide support. Inconsistent taking on blockers. Not a sure tackler. Capable of more than he’s showing.
What to watch for during the 2026 college football season
1. Consistent game-by-game?
2. Is he able to get out to the sidelines and provide help to cornerbacks by the time the passes arrive?
3. How does he look taking on blocks?
