Sam Leavitt Scores Unlimited Arby’s for Offensive Line
Many fans watched Arizona State lose to Texas 39-31 at the Peach Bowl on January 1. Although the Longhorns technically came out victorious, a few Sun Devils still landed a win thanks to Arizona State QB (quarterback) Sam Leavitt.
Despite being just a freshman, Leavitt stepped up this season and led Arizona State to an impressive 11-3 season.
Before their bowl game, the QB made a huge announcement. Leavitt shared that he would be giving all of his Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) earnings back to the team. Plus, his offensive line would each receive an unlimited supply of Arby’s for Christmas.
There are several components to this announcement- the first of which relates to Leavitt’s choice to donate his royalties to the team’s collective, the Sun Angel Collective.
This season, Leavitt has been working with Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers. He ended the year as the No. 15 Big 12 NIL earner, thanks to partnerships like this one.
The 20-year-old is under no obligation to give back to his team. However, he chose to do so anyway.
Leavitt takes charge
What makes the deal with Arby’s so special is that Leavitt took it upon himself to contact the company.
Most of the time, the players are the ones who are approached by companies looking to partner with them. However, this time Leavitt took control.
After learning that Arby’s was partnering with 100 NCAA offensive and defensive lineman, Leavitt decided to see if he could get a few more athletes in on the deal and nominated his offensive line.
“We don’t make the playoffs without our offensive line,” Leavitt stated. “These guys bring it every week so that our entire offense can be successful. They power the game every week and deserve to be recognized.”
The following members of the Arizona State O-line each received deals with the fast food chain: Josh Atkins, Emmit Bohle, Cade Briggs, Ben Coleman, Leif Fautanu, Max Iheanachor, Sean Na’a, and Makua Pule.
How Arby’s is showing its support for linemen
It seems that Leavitt chose Arby’s as they have recently made headlines for their new “Thighsman Award.” The inaugural honor was presented by football legend Joe Theismann to Michigan lineman Mason Graham just a few weeks ago.
Both Theismann and Arby’s announced that the award is dedicated to the big guys with big appetites. Most of the time, these players are overlooked when it comes to NIL and other marketing opportunities.
However, this award will be focused solely on getting these men the recognition they deserve, Business Wire reports.
“Let’s face it, big men need big sandwiches, and Arby’s gets that,” Theismann said according to NIL Daily on SI.
Leavitt’s actions appear very indicative of the type of person he really is. ASU coach Kenny Dillingham says Leavitt is a “great role model” for future ASU athletes.
“Sam is not just a special player but also a special person! His willingness to sacrifice for his teammates, both on and off the field, is what makes him truly exceptional,” Dillingham added, according to Arizona Sports.
The Sun Devils are in for a promising next few seasons as long as Leavitt is there.
