What are/were These 5 Draft Prospects’ College Majors?

Reading Time: 3 minutes

First Round Mock’s Victoria Jonach takes an interesting look at different player’s college education.

Tis the season for drafting!

With the draft taking off, NFL coaches and supporters are obviously looking into prospects’ athletic abilities. However, it is important these individuals are able to achieve success in terms of their education and professional life outside of football.

Ever wonder what these prospects are focused on off the field?

C.J. Stroud – Human development and family sciences

This former Buckeye forwent his last two years of college in January of this year to enter the draft. It is a good thing Stroud made this decision because he is on top of just about every mock draft created. The two-time Heisman trophy finalist was planning to study Human Development and Family Sciences before his career as an athlete took over. Stroud credits his choice of majors to his upbringing and the close nature of his own family.

“I want to inspire kids around middle school to high school age, because I feel like that was a pivotal point in my life where I kind of flipped the switch,” Stroud says. “I want to encourage young kids to not go down the world of negativity, or of selling drugs, or gang-banging or doing dumb things of that sort, and try to find their avenue of positivity.”

Bijan Robinson – Communication and leadership

The University of Texas running back also forwent the rest of his academic eligibility to enter the upcoming draft. Leaving after three seasons, the junior studied Communication and Leadership, which he definitely knows a thing or two about. Not only is he using his communication skills as a part of several NIL endorsements, he also created his own line of mustard, Dijan Mustardson.

The 21 year-old has leadership skills to add to the table as well. He was the 2022 recipient of the Doak Walker award, which each year recognizes one running back throughout the nation. This individual excels as an athlete, but also in terms of academic achievements and giving back to his community.

Tyree Wilson – Interdisciplinary studies

Not much is known about this defensive end’s major. Texas Tech’s Tyree Wilson is currently in his senior year and is pursuing a Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies.

According to On3, the 22-year old also hopes to one day run his own business. Since his degree covers multiple disciplines, who knows what kind of business we might see Wilson running one day after his professional career.

Marvin Harrison Jr. – Finance

Wide receiver from Ohio State, Marvin Harrison Jr. is studying finance. The 20 year-old is quickly proving himself in the world of football and has already received several honors. Harrison is an Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and an Academic all-Big Ten honoree.

It is no surprise that he has already reached such great success. His father is NFL Hall of Famer, Marvin Harrison Sr., who spent 13 seasons playing for the Indianapolis Colts. It is only natural for Harrison Jr. to follow in his footsteps as he prepares for next year’s draft.

Broderick Jones – Sports Management

The Bulldog could find himself on either side of the playing field with this degree. Studying sports management gives this offensive tackle a unique perspective. Jones has a broader understanding of the organization of the game, how contracts work, negotiation processes, and reasons behind trades. NFL coaches should recruit more players like Jones to avoid scandals, misunderstandings regarding rules, and issues concerning the regulation of the game.

Victoria Jonach is an aspiring writer and media analyst fascinated in what kinds of activities players participate in off the football field. Growing up in New Jersey, she is a New York Giants fan and attends Rutgers University, pursuing a career in Journalism and Media Studies. She writes for FirstRoundMock.com covering anticipated draft picks and their acts of volunteerism, entrepreneurship, and other interests that shape these individuals.
