Texas Left Tackle Trevor Goosby Has a Complacent Nature

Ho-hum.

That’s how I would describe what it was like sitting through 13 games of University of Texas left tackle Trevor Goosby on 2025 game film.

No question⎯

Goosby “looks the part.” Nobody will argue that. I mean, look at him.

However, this isn’t about “looking the part.”

It’s about playing it.

Did he do enough to “get by” against the level of competition he faced in 2025?

Yeah…

But how will that look in the NFL?

That’s the question.

Goosby is a tricky prospect because he checks some of the “first-round boxes” from the neck down, but from the neck up, it’s a different story.

There are some very real NFL concerns he put on his 2025 game film.

This is where I am thankful for the change in my process I made a couple of draft cycles ago. That’s when I began watching a season or two (sometimes three) of a prospect before they get drafted. Studying all the games provides information and context that isn’t available any other way.

The NFL is a passing league

That is a foundational truth that needs to be understood when projecting college offensive linemen to the next level.

• 31/32 NFL teams passed the ball more than 50% of the time in 2025 (teamrankings.com).

With that said ⎯

Goosby will be judged at left tackle in the NFL by his ability to protect the quarterback, and that will come down to sealing off the perimeter of the pocket.

Tell me more about Goosby in pass protection on tape…

• Inconsistent first step
• Long arms
• Uses hands well
• Tendency to stop sliding his feet and waist bend
• Decent lateral foot speed
• Quick twitch
• Competitive when engaged in pass protection
• Above-average football IQ
• Gap responsibilities (outside and inside shoulder) are too vulnerable

That paints the picture⎯

And that DOES NOT paint the picture of an elite NFL left tackle.

How about as a run blocker?

Pass the beans…

Sometimes it was enough.

Sometimes it wasn’t.

I had as many notes in the neutral and negative columns as I did in the positive section.

Reminds me too much of Kelvin Banks Jr.

Kelvin Banks Jr. was the Longhorns’ left tackle selected No. 9 in the 2025 NFL Draft. I gave Banks a fourth-round pre-draft grade.

Consensus Draft Media had him valued at 1.12 (NFL Mock Draft Database).

Per Pro Football Focus (PFF)⎯

Banks started in all 17 games in his rookie season for the Saints and finished the 2025 NFL season with the No. 32 offensive blocking grade for offensive tackles (73.5). In terms of his pass-blocking grade, Banks was No. 49 (70.4). Banks’ run-blocking grade was No. 23 (76.1).

There are only 32 teams.

When I went back and read my Banks report, it was similar to my thoughts on Goosby.

But Goosby didn’t look as heavy-footed.

Methodical prospect. Tendency to give up too early. Strong lower back and hands. Depends on natural strength and leverage more than technique. Has a lot of power. Tends to stay off the ground. Strong anchor vs. bull rushes. Average vs. pass rush moves. Good vs. stunts. Gets sloppy at times. Hit-and-miss on screens and run blocking out in space. Received some double-team help in pass pro. Teams picked on his side with delayed blitzes. Inconsistent sustaining run blocks.

What to watch for during the 2026 college football season

1. Does he look complacent?

2. Is he waist bending in pass protection?

3. How does he look at run blocking?
