Trinidad Chambliss⎯Wow

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss came out of nowhere.

I never even heard the name until I started seeing it everywhere after Ole Miss upset Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. I hadn’t seen that game because I’m so busy with other evaluations, but it was hard not to hear about it.

“Trinidad Chambliss” started popping like popcorn on my X feed, and people started asking me, “Have you done Chambliss yet?…”

I wrote back, “No, not yet,” a few times…

I’m on a tight schedule (17-20 hours a day, six to seven days a week) in preparation for the 2026 NFL Draft. I really didn’t want to take a detour.

Then one of my past editors text me, “What ya think of Trinidad Chambliss?”

That’s when I knew I had to do him, so I opened my notebook and began watching the first couple of games on the Rebels’ schedule when Chambliss saw late mop-up duty.

Decent, but nothing special.

Then Chambliss made his first start against Tulane. It’s like something took over his body.

I’m not kidding.

It was borderline unbelievable how good this DII transfer from Ferris State suddenly looked.

Then came the moment of truth…

His first SEC road start @ Georgia with 93,033 fans screaming their heads off.

How’d he look?

He didn’t blink

The more I watched…

Chambliss was showing incredible instincts, a strong arm, and a quick twitch throwing release.

I was getting more excited.

After that close 43-35 loss to Georgia, Ole Miss kept winning with Chambliss at the helm.

What other positives did I jot down along the way?

  • Keen sense for pass rush pressure
  • Incredible “feel” for “space,” both as a passer and as a runner
  • Knows where his receivers are going to be
  • Can wait until the last possible second with his eyes to look and throw to his second read
  • Takes minimal sacks and yardage loss (13 sacks in 14 games)
  • Will take what defenses give him
  • Deep passing game (24/48 50% on passes +20 air yards that I charted)
  • Wins on a lot of big downs
  • Growing arm confidence

Biggest concerns I jotted down?

  • Passes broken up by defenders
  • Tendency to lift his right back foot when he throws
  • Inconsistent release times (2025 Pro Football Focus Time to Throw: 2.59 seconds)

I charted that 37 of his passes were broken up in 14 games (2.64 per game average). He had a lot of passes batted down at the line of scrimmage.

Ugh.

Lifting his back foot off the ground causes too many of his passes to sail high or be overthrown.

Sugar Bowl

Chambliss got a second shot at Georgia, and the look on his face waiting for the snaps in the fourth quarter reminded me of the look on Mohammed Ali’s face as a young man.

Down 21-12 at the beginning of the game’s final fifteen minutes, Chambliss and his team walked away winning 39-34.

That was special.
