Alabama Offensive Tackle Kadyn Proctor is Underdeveloped

Nobody would ever accuse Alabama left tackle Kadyn Proctor of being underdeveloped when it comes to his size.
Proctor is built like one of those strong old oak trees that remain standing through the storms.
And that’s enough to win most of the time at the college level, but this isn’t about what he means to the Crimson Tide at the college level.
This is about his NFL value.
It is there left tackles are tasked with sealing off the pocket from the most skilled pass-rushers in the world, and that takes more than just elite size and strength. It also takes an elite skill set.
And that’s where he loses me.
Watch his feet
- Average lateral foot speed
- Average foot technique
Those two factors don’t bode well.
Time and again, these two deficiencies were evident on film throughout the season. Proctor lost control and leverage too often through the front and back gates of the pocket.
It didn’t help that he consistently stopped sliding his feet in pass protection at the three-quarters point of the pocket. He looked more like an ambulance chaser than a frachise left tackle.
Hands
The other main issue in pass protection is Proctor’s inconsistent hand placement at the point of attack.
Proctor’s hands are like two big vice grips, which he loves to use to clamp onto pass rushers’ shoulder pads high and wide outside. The problem with that was it left him vulnerable to being bull rushed. Oklahoma figured that out at the end of that game when they walked him back into the pocket several times.
Too inconsistent
What I saw on film was confirmed by his game-by-game Pro Football Focus pass-blocking grades:
Wisconsin 66.8
Georgia 91.4
Vanderbilt 87.9
South Carolina 85.0
Tennessee 65.3
Missouri 65.1
LSU 72.2
Mercer 84.7
Oklahoma 36.8
Auburn 59.2
Michigan 25.7
Granted, his overall pass-blocking efforts in 2024 were better than in 2023:
“Proctor tied for the most allowed sacks among all Division I offensive linemen with 12. He also gave up the 12th most pressures with 36.” (alabama-rivals.com)
Pro Football Focus stated he gave up 3 sacks and 15 pressures in 2024.
Run blocking
His Pro Football Focus grades were inconsistent from game to game in this department, and that was also apparent on tape.
Proctor is a dominant run blocker when he has leverage, but when he doesn’t, he’s VERY AVERAGE.
He’s also hit and miss away from the line of scrimmage in space.
First impression
I see Proctor as a developmental right tackle value at the next level.
Add in his waffling between wanting to play for Iowa or Alabama, and I’m walking away with more questions than answers.
I sure don’t see him as a top-10 overall value like other draft platforms at this point.

2026 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Thick brute mauler with questionable football IQ and raw techniques. Mountain of a man. Imposing presence. Equally distributed mass. Draws a lot of power from his lower body. Average anchor versus bull rushes. Flexible. Above average athletic ability. Compensates for weaknesses with effort. It’s not always pretty. Too reactive in pass pro. Solid initial set-up. Flashed a quick first step. Maintains a solid base in pass pro until he’s challenged. Tends to overextend to the outside, giving up leverage inside. Inconsistent versus stunts and blitzes. Sometimes loses track of his pass and run-blocking assignments. Can give up on pass and run blocks too soon. Short-yardage snowplow. Inconsistent sustaining run blocks. Missed the second half vs. Michigan (it was reported before the game that the shoulder was bothering him again). Battled a bad shoulder this season according to that report.
What to watch for during the 2025 college football season
1. Controlling the perimeter of the pocket in pass pro?
2. How does he look at run blocking?
3. Does his shoulder hold up?
