Arizona State (ASU) quarterback (QB) Sam Leavitt is a name that’s in the mix for the 2026 NFL Draft.

What did he look like last season?

Arizona State ran the ball a lot.

Sun Devils’ running back Cam Skattebo had the third-most carries in FCS Division I football. Because of this, Leavitt wasn’t asked to do much, which made for a tough evaluation on tape.

My grade on Leavitt fluctuated during my film study. I’m cautiously optimistic about his NFL projection.

Background

Leavitt was a four-star prospect out of high school and committed to Michigan State. He later transferred to Arizona State after one season (247Sports).

It’s interesting to note that Leavitt was a three-star transfer.

Leavitt’s 2024 Stats:

216 completions out of 350 attempts (61.7%)

2,885 yards (8.2 avg.)

24 touchdowns

6 interceptions

Controlled Chaos

Leavitt creates off script and improvises, but he still has the pro-level mechanics and mental abilities to stay in control of the defense. He shows a nice ability to manipulate the defense and exploit their weaknesses.

Leavitt is also a pretty good athlete and can use his legs to get himself out of trouble.

Mediocre Arm Talent

Leavitt’s arm strength is average at best and isn’t anything to write home about.

On tape, he struggled making big-time throws and fitting passes into super-tight windows. He seemed to take what the defense gave him rather than push the ball downfield. Although he’s crafty, he’s not exactly explosive or extremely naturally gifted.

Solid Across the Board

Leavitt is a jack-of-all-trades, master of none type of prospect.

He’s average (or slightly better than average) on a lot of things across the board. He doesn’t wow me in any one aspect.

Production Bump

With Skattebo off to the big leagues with the Giants, I’m hoping Leavitt gets a chance to take on a bigger role in the offense and truly look like a franchise QB. Leavitt will have a chance to showcase the areas that are in question.

Ten Adjectives

Poised. Instinctive. Methodical. Athletic. Limited. Efficient. Average. Controlled. Crafty. Cautious.

Explaining the Grade

Right now, Leavitt profiles best as a high-end backup with potential to develop into a league-average starter. Because of this, an optimal place for him to be selected would be in the middle of the second round.

Of course, this is all subject to change with another season of college football ahead of him.

2024 Game Film Summary

There’s enough functional skill to warrant NFL interest.

Rajvir Bal is a high school student from the Virginia area. He grew up a rabid Washington Redskins fan, attending more than 30 games, and has enjoyed the team’s high points and low points throughout his life. He plays varsity football and basketball. Rajvir has taken an interest in the NFL Draft since middle school when his team picked Montez Sweat and Dwayne Haskins in the first round. His favorite NFL player ever flips between Rob Gronkowski and Brett Favre, and his favorite athlete is LeBron James. He has been writing his own scouting reports since 2020, and is excited for the opportunities FirstRoundMock provides.
