Cam Ward Motivates Teammates with Custom Gift
The University of Miami’s undefeated football season has officially come to an end.
The Hurricanes fought a tough battle in Week 10 but ultimately suffered a 28-23 loss against Georgia Tech.
However, Miami quarterback (QB) Cam Ward is not about to let his team lose their momentum. On Wednesday, he surprised each of his offensive linemen with a huge gift.
Ward’s grand gesture
While waiting for their food to be served, Ward presented each of his teammates with a personalized diamond chain. Each piece of jewelry was customized with their individual numbers on them…and I think it’s safe to say they were excited.
This isn’t the first time Ward has surprised his teammates with gifts. Last month, he partnered with Bose, and each of his teammates received headphones.
It’s deals like the one with Bose that made his jewelry gesture possible. The 22-year-old has already made over $2 million in brand deals. Besides Bose, he has partnered with well-known brands such as Adidas, C4 Energy, and more.
He is not letting his Name, Image, and Likeness deals get to his head, though. Just before the 2024 season began, Ward shared his thoughts on where the money lands amongst his priorities.
“At the end of the day, money comes and goes. If you’re really worried about money, you won’t get to where you want to be,” Ward said. “At the end of the day, you have to be a good person and take care of the little things.”
“If we win an ACC Championship, I think that would take care of a lot of the individual awards that we want,” he added. “The more we win games the more everybody will get blessed,” On3 Reports.
How Ward feels about the Heisman Trophy
Ward’s commitment to his teammates is commendable. While some athletes like Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty and Colorado dual-threat Travis Hunter have been making their intentions clear about their place in the race for the Heisman Trophy, Ward is focusing on his accomplishments as a teammate.
“My goal is not to be the Heisman Trophy winner,” said Ward. “My goal is to win football games and play for a national championship,” Essentially Sports states.
Ward has a real shot at winning the prestigious award. The QB has already logged over 3,400 passing yards and boasts an impressive QBR rating.
In the Georgia Tech game, Ward also broke Miami’s previous single-season passing touchdown record of 29.
“It’s great that the public gets to see all his hard work come to fruition,” said Mario Cristobal, Miami head coach. “We see it every single day in practice.”
“A tremendous amount of confidence in him,” Cristobal added. “Really appreciate his approach to the game, really appreciate the way he impacts his teammates in the preparation part, which leads to good performances.”
Ward still has several more games to play this season. So, the bar for future Miami QBs will be through the roof if he continues playing at this level of success.
