Shedeur Sanders KFC Commercial- But is Deion the Star?

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Shedeur Sanders is certainly following in his father, Deion’s footsteps as another top prospect in the football community. The Colorado quarterback (QB) and coach duo are even working together in the family’s newest Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal.

The famous family has once again partnered with the popular fast-food chain, KFC. Shedeur posted a new advertisement on his Instagram several days ago, including his two brothers and father.

Together, the Sanders created several advertisements promoting KFC’s new additions to their $5 meal menu. The Sanders promote the “Chicken Nuggets Meal” and “Famous Bowl with KFC Chicken Nuggets,” as well as the original “2-piece Drum and Thigh Meal.” Coach Prime also re-promotes the chain’s “$20 Taste of KFC Family Meal.”

Sander(s) stealing the spotlight

While Coach Prime tries to keep things democratic, Shedeur’s brother Shilo (safety for Colorado) insinuates he is the favorite son.

Shedeur gets his turn to shine in other commercials, though. The family shot several advertisements with the fast-food chain.

The QB got the chance to use his famous catchphrase in several of the other commercials.

Fans can learn more about how Shedeur is branding himself as “legendary” here.

Did Coach Prime break his own rules for the shoot?

As many fans are familiar with Shedeur Sanders, there are still more that know of Deion. This is thanks to his success on the field, as well as his shenanigans off of the field.

Several fans may have noticed a certain color that Deion Sanders wore in one of the advertisements. While this wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for many other coaches, Sanders has a special rule about this color as the Colorado coach.

When Coach Prime arrived at Colorado last year, he set a precedent that anything related to the Buffaloes could not be red. This is due to the Buffaloes’ rivalry with Nebraska (whose colors are red and white).

Sanders wasn’t the creator of this rivalry, though. Colorado and Nebraska have been at odds since 1982 when former Buffaloes coach Bill McCartney took over. He chose Nebraska as Colorado’s rival and was known for famously saying: “I’d rather be dead than red.”

Fast forward back to today and fans see Sanders sporting a vibrant red cowboy hat in the Instagram ad with his three sons behind him. However, several authors from Colorado Buffaloes on SI (Jason Jones and Emanuel Walker) speculate that this may have been purposeful with each noting similarities to the Nebraska mascot.

Who is the real star of the Colorado Buffaloes?

None of the Sanders have commented on Coach Prime’s choice of clothing yet. All in all, this is one of the smaller controversies the family is used to.

Even amongst disputes over his attitude and spending habits, Shedeur is following in his father’s footsteps and is likely to participate in even more commercials with the brand, plus others.

The QB continues to ink new NIL deals. Before the 2024 season officially started, he has made more than $4 million in deals. Not to mention, he has amassed over 2 million followers between all of his social media accounts, according to On3.

However, it’s tough to compete with his father’s reputation. In this article, alone, Deion still managed to steal the spotlight…
