Kryon Drones, Cameron Ward & Shedeur Sanders at Youth Camp

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Youth camps have always been a popular event for college athletes to host. Most of the time, though, the camps feature a single player or several members of a team.

However, camps involving several star athletes from separate teams are even more exciting. That’s why a recent camp involving quarterbacks Kyron Drones (Virginia Tech), Cameron Ward (Miami), and Shedeur Sanders (Colorado) attracted the attention of many young fans.

The free camp took place on Saturday, July 27, and was open to all ages and positions. Although it rained, tons of young fans showed up to learn from the three athletes.

In a post from Sanders’ account, fans can see him running through drills with the kids, signing autographs, taking photos, and more.

A few words from the stars

While they all wished that the kids had fun at the camp, the three athletes also shared information about their personal lives, athletic careers, and advice for the young athletes.

Drones said he is still adjusting to being in the spotlight. He also noted how he enjoys coaching with Sanders and Ward as he has known them since high school. The main thing he wants the kids to take away from the camp is to “just have fun.”

While the Virginia Tech QB discussed his career as an athlete, Ward advised the next generation of athletes to choose the right school for them.

“The biggest thing that I would have to say to young kids is don’t go somewhere just based off the school, [or] the stars,” said the Miami QB. “Go somewhere where you’re going to play. The only thing that’s going to matter in the end is if you’re making plays on the field…You can always transfer your way up.”

Sanders shared that it doesn’t take much to be a good quarterback. To be great, though, is a whole new ball game that he says involves focus, as well as removing all distractions.

Speaking of the Colorado QB, it may come as a surprise to many fans that he was part of another youth camp after his last one didn’t go quite as planned.

Sanders fans get crazy at camp

Last month, the Colorado Buffaloes held a youth camp. However, Sanders was surprised when the young athletes were more aggressive than the QB anticipated.

The kids asked for his chain, glasses, and where his watch is. One athlete even snatched his hat before passing it to several other kids. Many also begged for photos and autographs.

Although it looked like they may have been leading the camp for a few moments, Sanders seemed to regain control quickly.

“All names, they were all over him,” the hosts of the Whistle of The Pregame Network said while recalling Shedeur’s impact on the children. “He could control the whole camp. All he had to do was come out here and start walking and they just spot him around and he kept all the kids in line.”

Sanders’ patience during the camp was commendable. Props to him for volunteering again after this all occurred.
