Carson Beck: A Master of the West Coast Offense
First Round Mock’s Rajvir Bal has high hopes for Georgia quarterback (QB) Carson Beck heading into the 2024 season.

The media seems to think the 2025 NFL Draft lacks top-end quarterback talent.
The game film doesn’t lie.
Here at First Round Mock, game film trumps everything. The quarterback position is arguably the hardest position in sports. He has to process information like no other, make tough decisions in seconds, and most importantly, be a leader of a team. It’s no easy job, and that’s why so many quarterbacks fall flat in the big leagues. The skills needed to be a successful NFL QB are drastically different from the ones needed to be a successful college one.
Today I will see if Georgia QB Carson Beck has what it takes.
Background
He’s the prototype for the QB position. In high school, he won Mr. Football for the state of Florida and later committed to Georgia (247Sports).
He was a four-star recruit.
After seeing limited duty in 2021 and 2022, as a junior, Beck posted an impressive 72.4% completion percentage while throwing for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Rajvir Bal’s 2025 NFL Draft Grade: Mid-First-Round (I would select him)
Projected by 88.0% of the NFL Draft Community to be a first-round pick as of July 6, 2024 (nflmockdraftdatabase.com)
2023 game film reviewed: Kentucky, South Carolina, Florida State, Missouri, and Alabama (click to view games watched to form this evaluation)
The Good
Beck’s an improvisationalist who thrives in RPO (run-pass option) and plays action scenarios. His throwing motion is smooth as butter. I would imagine that this has something to do with his baseball background. A background in baseball has helped many NFL QBs such as Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, and others. This athletic background allowed him to develop a quick release, which will be essential in the NFL. He’s a world-class processor. He can scan the field like no other and thrives in the short and intermediate game (0-19 yards). Georgia was able to rely on him during 3rd & mid because of his mastery of the short game. As the season went on, the more evident his leadership became. Beck will be a great NFL QB if placed into a west-coast-like system. Think Giants QB Daniel Jones but 10x better. His high completion percentage is another example of his poise as a passer. When his receivers are covered he’s not hesitant to take off with the ball.
The Bad
Beck thrives in Georgia’s offense, partially because it is tailor-made for him. He’s erratic when being blitzed (This was prevalent in the 2023 Georgia vs. South Carolina game). His raw arm talent isn’t anything to write home about, and as a result, he favors the check-down. His top-end potential will be limited because of his inability to make the home-run plays.
Final thoughts for now
He shined in just his first year as a starter, and he has now been around the Georgia locker room and has become acclimated to his surroundings as “the guy.” In 2024, I’m expecting the type of jump we saw out of Bo Nix (Former Oregon QB and 2024 first-round selection of the Denver Broncos). If he continues to expand upon his mastery of the short and intermediate passing game, as well as continuing his improvisational skills, I will be confident in putting a top-ten grade on Beck down the road. At the moment, I will be a tad more conservative. Beck’s game film leaves room for improvement, but he’s a talented and toolsy prospect.
I have high hopes for Beck this coming college football season. I know he won’t disappoint.
Rajvir Bal is a high school student from the Virginia area. He grew up a rabid Washington Redskins fan, attending more than 30 games, and has enjoyed the team’s high points and low points throughout his life. He plays varsity football and basketball. Rajvir has taken an interest in the NFL Draft since middle school when his team picked Montez Sweat and Dwayne Haskins in the first round. His favorite NFL player ever flips between Rob Gronkowski and Brett Favre, and his favorite athlete is LeBron James. He has been writing his own scouting reports since 2020, and is excited for the opportunities FirstRoundMock provides.
