Shedeur Sanders ‘Perfect Timing’ Flops With Majority of Fans
Shedeur Sanders continues to surprise fans with his new business endeavors. Two weeks ago, the Colorado quarterback ventured into the music business and recorded his first rap song.
Sanders released “Perfect Timing” on Tuesday, May 7, and fans seem to have differing opinions on the tune.
Mixed reviews
Although most are not fans of the song, a few enjoy it and congratulate Sanders on yet another accomplishment.
Others noted that those who diss the song may simply be displaying their jealousy, rather than their dislike for the song.
“It’s crazy how people with a 0% fan base [are] giving a whole dissertation on hate for this man. Either way, his engagement is up. Haters are really just undercover fans,” one user said in an Instagram comment of the above post.
Sanders is wildly successful in terms of NIL. According to On3, Sanders’ valuation is over $4.5 million, which is the highest among college football players. It’s definitely a possibility that people don’t like seeing him so successful.
Others, however, have not held back with their negative reviews.
Getting real with Sanders
One author from Athlon Sports was harshly in-depth about Sanders’ failed attempt, poking at what real rap music consists of in terms of musicality, but also the message.
“Rap music is and has always been about being authentic and telling a story, with the story being about struggle or overcoming obstacles. The more authentic the artist and message, the more valued it is to the culture. ‘Perfect Timing’ has neither. There is no coherent message,” the author of the Op-ed, Al Formicola writes.
Was it really perfect timing?
Sanders’ song was released at an intense time in the rap scene. Famous rappers Drake and Kendrick Lamar have recently been feuding and have released several diss tracks.
Sander first shared a snippet of the song last summer. He posted a video of his father’s reaction to the tune. Based on Coach Prime’s dancing, he seemed to be a fan.
So, is it jealousy? Is it that fans truly dislike the song? Or do fans want him to focus on his athletic skills, rather than constantly find new ways to make money?
It certainly doesn’t help that Sanders repeatedly mentions luxury items such as cars, watches, and jewelry in the song.
Regardless, Sanders is undoubtedly taking after his father’s entrepreneurial interests. At least he has a backup plan if football doesn’t work out.
