Terrion Arnold – A Role Model For All

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Not every player can be classified as a role model. However, the ones that can be, like Alabama cornerback Terrion Arnold deserve to have their efforts highlighted.

At just 21 years old, Arnold is predicted to be a first-round pick in the upcoming draft. The cornerback has made it clear that he cares about more than just making it to the NFL, though. He has demonstrated kindness, an ability to be selfless, and an impressive work ethic.

Just one example of this is Arnold’s relationship with a custodian who works at his former high school.

Terrion’s thoughtful gift

In December of 2022, Arnold visited John Paul II Catholic High School in Tallahassee, Florida in search of fulfilling a longtime commitment. While in high school, Arnold promised to give a custodian his Alabama jersey.

“I’ve got a little surprise for you,” Arnold said. “… You’re a great dude.”

The janitor replied, “I try to be. … Oh my goodness. I love it! First time in my life, I finally look good,” he joked.

Although a simple gesture, it demonstrates Arnold’s ability to deliver on his commitments. It also shows how he is not someone to forget those who have supported him throughout his career.

Arnold visits home

This is not Arnold’s first heartwarming gesture. One year later, the cornerback returned to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare to visit his place of birth!

Here, he visited several children and families. He also handed out teddy bears and took photos with the kids to spread joy around the holidays.

“I just want to make people’s day and let them know, even though they’re in the hospital for the holidays, someone’s thinking of them,” said Arnold.

His family noted their pride in Arnold’s actions at the event, as well.

“He’s setting an example for the children in his life — his sisters and his cousins,” said Grandpa Terry, “He’s teaching them in his actions.”

How his grandfather inspires him

Speaking of family, Arnold demonstrates an admirable relationship with his family. While some people avoid mentioning a blue-collar upbringing, Arnold is proud of his.

At the 2024 NFL Combine, Arnold discussed his background and how it has shaped who he is today. He says he was inspired by his grandfather’s work and compared it to his efforts as an athlete.

“My granddad was a roofer, so I like to correlate roofing with football,” Arnold said. “My granddad always told me on that roof no one is coming to save you, so when I’m on that roof and it’s high-pitch walking up there, you’re slipping on the fiberglass, you kind of get a little rocky, a little shaky, you know that if you lose confidence in yourself you’re going to slip and fall.

It’s the same way with cornerback.”

His down-to-earth outlook on life is inspiring not only for him, but to his teammates, fans, and everyone else in his life. Tune into the 2024 NFL Draft beginning on April 25 to see where Arnold lands and how he will continue his legacy as a role model.
