Bo Nix Gives Back Right Before Draft
Bo Nix finished March in the best possible way!
The Oregon quarterback and his wife visited the PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend.
“It means a lot to me to be able to play a role in supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and families like these,” Nix said. “It’s really cool to see how much impact people can have on one another and how a simple shoe [donated cleats] can go a long way and make such a difference. It’s a joy for me and my wife, Izzy, to be part of something like this.”
Nix talked to the kids and several families, took photos, and checked out the work done by the staff. He also handed out an impressive donation.
A huge gift for the hospital
During his visit, Nix presented a $13,400 check to the institution on behalf of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and 7-Eleven.
In October, 7-Eleven kicked off their “Cleat Crew” program. The project included nine athletes, each of whom worked with The Shoe Surgeon to design a pair of cleats. Then, the shoes were auctioned off and the proceeds went to a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital of their choosing. Nix’s cleats sold for $3,400 and 7-Eleven generously added $10,000 to every player’s donation
Dr. Doug Leonard is a neonatologist at the hospital. He says that Nix’s donation will go a long way in terms of the expenses that newborns require.
“Dealing with intricacies of the first seconds of people’s lives is difficult,” Leonard said according to KEZI 9 News. “And when you think about the newborn ICU, either the babies there came early or came with problems and there’s an exorbitant number of things that need to happen quickly, which costs a lot of money. Being affiliated with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals means if we need equipment, we have it, and it allows us to do really special things. And then you get 7-Eleven and Bo Nix, they add to the momentum of the community getting behind it.”
Nix’s devotion to giving back
This isn’t the first time Nix has engaged in volunteer activities. According to him, he enjoys being a part of projects like this.
“I think it’s just very cool that they use athletes for something bigger than just a social media post or something else,” said Nix. “Using what they’re being able to use and highlight is just, I think, very unique from a company like that,” he says about the Cleat Crew deal. “I think it’s had a really good, positive action that has come out of it.”
Nix also teamed up with ALS Northwest to raise money for ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
For every touchdown (TD) he made through the 2023 season, he pledged to donate $100. His total was 45 TDs, so ALS Northwest received a generous donation of $4,500 at the end of the season.
“God has blessed me with a platform through football and it’s my responsibility to use it for something greater than myself,” expressed Nix, ALS Northwest writes.
Several sports analysts are projecting Nix will be chosen during the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. It is not just his athletic abilities that make Nix special, though- it is also his huge heart.
