First Round Mock’s William Yanish takes a close look at the talented but recovering from injury Florida State quarterback (QB), Jordan Travis

When the 2023 season started, I had a shortlist of prospects whom I wanted to see develop.

Unfortunately, there were serious injuries to a couple that I had high expectations of.

One of those was Florida State University QB Jordan Travis. He suffered a gruesome ankle injury, dashing any College Football Playoff (CFP) and National Championship hopes this year. This was despite a 13-0 undefeated record.

That caused a bit of a stir.

Background

Travis made his intentions clear, “I came here to win a national championship,” Travis said.

Prior to the 2023 season, I had a first-round grade on this Seminoles QB.

There was just something about him.

However, despite the major injury Travis suffered, I can still tell you that the six-foot-one, 213-pound prospect is still one of the best QBs in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The only questions that I can come up with are all medical

He is and will be a great QB in the NFL, if his ankle holds up.

His 2023 stats (10 games) help to support my projection.

  • 207 of 324 (63.9%)
  • 2,756 yards
  • 20 touchdowns
  • 2 interceptions
  • 7 rushing touchdowns

The Yanish Report

Lean, smaller build. Dynamic, fast, duality at QB. QB first, always keeping eyes downfield. TEMPO. Fast, rhythmic movements. Designed runs and run-pass options (RPO) allow coaches to open a full playbook. Traditional rhythmic mechanics. Plays a ton bigger than he is. Excels with command and control. Ball placement, eh…Needs more repetition, setting feet and throwing. Throws off platform more than needed. Raging football IQ. Can/will carry his team. STAR. Charismatic leader.

Consistency, consistency, consistency.

For the win

When it comes down to the NFL Draft, some team is going to get a steal from drafting Travis. I might not be able to continue with the first round grade, but that does not mean that he does not possess first round value and will show it soon enough.

In fact, there are not a lot of QBs that I would take over Travis this year.

I can actually count them on one hand.

The fact that Travis has since been showing steady progress recovering from his injury is encouraging. There is reason for optimism. That, as well as attending the East-West Shrine game and talking to the media is a great sign. Meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers is also an excellent start for Travis’ offseason.

The only reason that I am adjusting my grade is his medical status and the uncertainty that comes from it. I can’t stress enough, he is still deserving of a first-round grade, it’s painted all over his game film.

My BIG three questions

1. What will he look like when he is finally able to return to the field?

2. Will he have to sit out the entire 2024 NFL season?

3. How much of his skill set will he be able to display for scouts before the draft?
