Dominant. That’s the one word I would use to describe Georgia Bulldogs’ right tackle Amarius Mims if I was sitting in a pre-draft meeting on an NFL team ⎯and I was called upon to talk about him.

Mims made it look easy.

A team can throw away the key at right tackle for the next decade if they select Mims.

On game film, he looks like an elite NFL right tackle.

Despite Mims missing time this season due to a high-ankle sprain that required tight-rope surgery and then pulling a hamstring at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, Mims has participated in 364 pass-blocking snaps over the past two seasons (Pro Football Focus):

Zero Sacks allowed

Zero Hits given up

Five quarterback hurries surrendered

How did Mims look in 2022 versus 2023?

Improved.

In 2022, I studied Mims in two games and I couldn’t help but notice he looked like he had ‘heavy feet’ in pass protection and average speed getting to the second level of the defense on run blocks (where the linebackers line up pre-snap).

That wasn’t the case in 2023.

The difference was noticeable. Mims was sliding out more effortlessly and quickly, and he was faster getting out to the second level.

He looked inexperienced in 2022, but he came into his own in 2023.

Pass protection

BIG

POWERFUL

STRONG

FLUID

ATHLETIC

SMART

COORDINATED

Mims is impossible to go through and he’s tough to get around. He looks like a ton of bricks on wheels.

With long arm reach to boot ⎯Mims does a nice job walling off the perimeter of the pocket and protecting his quarterback.

The only slight issue is he can start to lose leverage at the back door of the pocket (the back edge), stop sliding his feet, and start to get turned sideways, but he is still able to win with a hard push. Mims gives effort throughout.

It wasn’t a big deal on his college film.

Clearing those lanes

When it comes to the run-blocking department, Mims is equally impressive.

He excels as a positional blocker who understands the art of leverage. His movements are nimble and he tends to stay off the ground.

Run blocking is when Mims’ natural awesome raw weight room strength really comes out on film.

This is also when his mean and nasty streak comes out too.

Heart

Every piece of information is part of a prospect’s evaluation.

What did Mims learn while going through his injury this season?

“In college, I’ve never had an injury that I’ve been out that long,” Mims said. “What I learned about myself is that I’ve got heart. A lot of people could’ve been like, ‘You know what, I’ll shut it down. I’ve missed six games, that’s a big majority of the year.’ But I’ve learned that I can come back and play as good as I’ve been playing or whatever and all that good stuff. I’ve got heart, man. That’s the main thing.”

2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Natural looking prospect who excels at pass and run blocking. Strong effort. Alert. Focused. Wins Methodically. Quick first step in pass pro and then hop steps out well. Sturdy. Equally distributed power. Strong vice grip hands that are in position. Flexible. Agile. No cross-over setting up and maintaining with footwork throughout. Fast reflexes. Nice combo blocks. Ironclad anchor vs. bull rushes. Showed high football IQ easily handling “X” stunts and blitzes. Shadows the pocket. Man mover run blocker. A lot of pushing and shoving. Inconsistent sustain. Mixed results in space, but can get there. No glaring negative tendencies, just a bunch of one-offs.

Final words

Future NFL All-Pro.
