2024 Senior Bowl Summary: Stock Risers & Droppers

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The week of the 2024 Senior Bowl has been completed.

Over one hundred prospects participated in the Senior Bowl practices and game. Based on my evaluations, here are my stock risers and droppers from the action in Mobile, Alabama.

Summary:

Jackson Powers-Johnson (Oregon center), Taliese Fuaga (Oregon State offensive tackle), Ladd McConkey (Georgia wide receiver), Quinyon Mitchell (Toledo cornerback), Roman Wilson (Michigan wide receiver), and more led the way in terms of notable prospects dominating throughout the week.

Each day, the American and National teams tackled individual drills, 1v1s in different scenarios, and team scrimmages. During the Senior Bowl game, some athletes continued their dominance including Spencer Rattler (South Carolina quarterback), Christian Haynes (UCONN right guard), Dominick Puni (Kansas offensive tackle), and Emani Bailey (TCU running back).

Senior Bowl game

In the Senior Bowl game, Rattler led a solid opening drive and quarter going 4-4, plus contributing 65 yards and one touchdown. He displayed good placement, poise in the pocket, and decision-making.

Rattler was named Senior Bowl MVP.

Haynes continued his play in the trenches with solid combo blocking skills, reaching the second level to open running lanes.

Puni was able to control his opposition, driving defenders back.

Bailey started the game off hot, receiving multiple touches in both the running and receiving game.

Overall, the special team units seemed to struggle.

Stock Risers overall:

Jackson Powers-Johnson, IOL, Oregon

Powers-Johnson dominated at both center and guard this week, making him a consensus prospect. His impressive weigh-in while demonstrating his athleticism, quickness, and IQ solidified that statement. Displayed patience, quick reaction, and great lower-body strength and balance against rushers all week.

Teams in need of center or guard help will be all in on Powers-Johnson, who is now a potential first-round pick.

Dominick Puni, OL, Kansas

Puni was another offensive lineman who shined while taking reps at tackle, guard, and center. The versatile offensive lineman won’t make it past day two of the NFL draft. Throughout the week, Puni displayed consistent technique and lower body strength in both 1v1s and team drills.

Not only did Puni show good awareness, but his initial punches and placement were impressive.

Jarvis Brownlee Jr., CB, Louisville

Brownlee Jr. was dominant all week in the secondary as he started getting noticed by star NFL players like Jets corner Sauce Gardner. Showcased great fluidity in the hips, allowing him to lock down receivers in 1v1s.

He was physical in press coverage and had good read-and-react ability on routes.

Ladd McConkey, WR, Georgia

McConkey was another prospect who had a phenomenal week and pushed his name to a potential first-round selection. Multiple, wide receiver-needy teams want an exceptional route runner. McConkey displayed what these teams need, constantly creating separation with route fluidity on breaks inside and towards the boundary.

McConkey showcased his ball-tracking and hand-eye coordination skills on almost every rep.

Strock Droppers:

Devontez Walker, WR, North Carolina

Walker’s story this week was crucial, adding up to almost ten drops (in the three days of drills) before the senior bowl game. His play resulted in three drops within the game on Saturday. On top of that, he wasn’t able to create any separation and lacked physicality.

Joe Milton, QB, Tennessee

Milton was another player with a horrific week, resulting in inconsistent ball placement and no anticipation. Throughout the week and the game, Milton showed poor decision-making with the inability to bypass the first read. His play style was a potential turnover machine.

Kalen King, CB, Penn State

King didn’t have much discussion all week and this was for good reasoning. Almost every rep, he was easily beaten to any area, lacking physicality which resulted in too much separation.

Bo Nix, QB, Oregon

Nix had his ups and downs throughout the week. Once again, he displayed hesitation on receiver breaks, causing bad timing. Showed struggles with deep ball accuracy, touch, as well as ball placement across the intermediate and inconsistent arm strength.

Ultimately, he lacked consistency.

MVP’s:

Offensive Lineman: Jackson Powers-Johnson

Tight End: Theo Johnson (Penn State)

Wide Receiver: Ladd McConkey

Quarterback: Spencer Rattler

Defensive Lineman: Adisa Issac (Penn State)

Linebacker: Jackson Sirmon (CAL)

Defensive Back: Quinyon Mitchell

Colton just graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science at the United States Sports Academy. He has previous coaching experience as a former offense and defensive line coach at a local high school. While performing those duties, he also worked at PFF(Pro Football Focus) for a brief moment of time. He currently develops scouting reports here at firstroundmock.com. His aspirations are to become an NFL Scout/GM in the future.
