Day 2 Senior Bowl Standouts & Under-Performers

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Both the American and National team held practices on Wednesday, January 31 for the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl. NFL Draft Analyst Colton Edwards looked into a few of the athletes for First Round Mock.

Day Two in Mobile, Alabama has wrapped up.

Who left scouts impressed?

Who left them disappointed?

Here is a quick analysis of some of the players from Wednesday’s practice.

Their official measurements (height, weight, and length) from the event will be listed.

Senior Bowl practices continue tomorrow, Thursday, February 1st with more live coverage of the practice. It starts at 10:30 a.m. ET on NFL Network/ESPNU/ESPN App, and then 1 p.m. ET on NFL Network/ESPN2/ESPN App. (The game is on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET on NFL Network).

Standouts:

Puni has been gaining a lot of attention this week due to his quick transition into center and has excelled today at this position. He has now played tackle, guard, and center. He displayed good balance and hand usage in pass protection while showing high football IQ when diagnosing stunts.

Notable Rep:

Consistent competitor

Jackson displayed easy work today as he blew past defenders in both team and 1v1s over and over. He showed excellent speed and attempts to create separation throughout his routes and at the break. His work ethic was on full display.

Notable Rep:

The lockdown defensive back of Day 2

Hart was on full lockdown display against notable receivers like North Carolina’s Tez Walker. Overall, good physicality and read-and-react ability with quick transitions on routes. One of the most consistent defensive backs so far this week.

Notable Rep:

The only returnee from day one as a standout

He once again took reps at both center and guard. Displayed patience, quick reaction, and great lower-body strength and balance against rushers. His 1v1’s against defensive tackles Michael Hall (Ohio State) and Tyler Davis (Clemson) were notable.

Notable Rep:

Outstanding all-day

He showcased his fluidity and ability to be a potential jump ball threat with great ball-tracking skills. Consistently created separation, making it easy for him and the quarterback.

Notable Rep:

Under-Performers:

Walker is unfortunately back on the list for day two. His day resulted in five drops and he once again failed to create separation on his routes. There was a lack of movement off the line of scrimmage and doesn’t seem to be watching the ball all the way through at times.

Driskell had a rougher outcome on day two, getting beat inside multiple times during team and 1v1s. At times, he became too high in his pass sets which resulted in losing power and quickness.

Rice (Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice’s son) makes the underperforming list once again on day two. The result was more drops (3), and struggling in the contest again. This USC receiver didn’t show the ability to create any separation, especially against press coverage.

He allowed too much separation between him and the receiver especially at the break. UCF receiver Javon Baker exploited his weaknesses during 1v1s.

Colton just graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science at the United States Sports Academy. He has previous coaching experience as a former offense and defensive line coach at a local high school. While performing those duties, he also worked at PFF(Pro Football Focus) for a brief moment of time. He currently develops scouting reports here at firstroundmock.com. He aspires to become an NFL Scout/GM in the future.
