Tyler Guyton: Aggressive and Athletic
Oklahoma right tackle (RT) Tyler Guyton was impressive in this four-game study on 2022 film. He got after it and stayed after it both in pass protection and while run blocking.
Except for the play when an FSU edge rusher blew through him like he was a red cape on the last play of the game, he looked the part.
Guyton has been a name that’s come on fast in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Walter Football, Pro Football Network, USA Today, 33rd Team, Bleacher Report, and The Athletic have all put a first-round grade on him.
After watching his 2022 game film I like him, but I don’t love him.
It wasn’t only the sack either when Guyton looked like a turnstile that gave me pause about him (shown below).
There were some other things too that kept Guyton from looking elite.
Pass protection
There were a couple of spin-back pass rush moves that caused Guyton to lose blocks and there are inconsistencies with his footwork at the back door of the pocket.
Sometimes, he shows he can continue to shuffle and slide his feet to the back edge, but there are other times he allows himself to get turned and he starts to lose the block. Granted, he gave a high effort level and was able to compensate because of that and still get the job done. I just get concerned when an offensive tackle stops sliding his feet and ends up in more of a chase position instead.
There are a lot of skilled speed rushers in the NFL. I need to see consistency with the lateral footwork.
Run blocking
There were significantly more positive remarks in my notes in this department than negative. Sure, he flat-out missed a few times and he’s inconsistent at sustaining blocks. However, he got after it on running plays and showed off his aggressive nature.
He also can move.
Guyton is excellent at pulling and he can get out to the second level (where the linebackers line up pre-snap) with ease. He’s extremely athletic and he run blocks like he means it.
An NFL team can win with Guyton
The game of football is important to this Oklahoma offensive lineman. It shows up on film. He goes the extra mile and does everything he can to help his team win.
Guyton gets visibly fired up at times too.
NFL teams need players who can move the meter.
That perfectly describes Guyton.

2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Leaner athletic cut frame with strong long arms, but some inconsistencies with pass protection and run blocking. Aggressive nature. Felt like he was growing into the position watching him play. Tends to set up well initially in pass protection with heavy hands in ready-to-strike mode. A quick first step gets him into position and he maintains a nice wide base in the shallow depths of the pocket. Battles. Inconsistent with sliding his feet to the backdoor of the pocket and can surrender blocking leverage in these situations. Decent anchor. Performed well vs. FSU Jared Verse. Did well in double teams. Handled “X” stunts and inside rush attempts. Aggressive positional blocker on run plays. Pushes and shoves. Does everything he can. Sometimes released his block too soon as his guy got involved. Good speed to get downfield in space.
What to watch for during the 2023 college football season:
1. Does he consistently slide his feet in pass protection at the back door of the pocket?
2. How does he look against spin pass rush moves?
3. Anchor vs. bull rushes?
4. Sustaining run blocks consistently?
