Bo Nix Nurtures the Next Generation of Players
First Round Mock’s Victoria Jonach takes a look at what Oregon quarterback (QB) Bo Nix has been doing to help.
Getting your name out there is undoubtedly important for college athletes everywhere. However, how individuals learn your name is just as important as telling people who you are.
Nix has his fair share of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals. Now, the QB has ventured into a different world – – coaching kids.
The 23-year-old is hosting his own youth camp. NIL rules have changed and now that players can benefit financially, Nix is capitalizing off of his success at Oregon. This is all while using his talents to educate the next generation of players.
According to a tweet from The NIL Deal from May, the camp will be held on July 15. Nix has chosen to host the camp at North Eugene High School in Eugene, Oregon. Any boys and girls from ages 6-16 can purchase tickets for $149.99 and attend.
Those who take part in the camp will receive beneficial advice, help with skills, and get to work with Nix on various drills and games.
“Bo Nix and our coaches will provide your child with valuable football knowledge and hands-on instruction in a fun, high-energy, positive environment. Camp activities will include lectures, fundamental skill stations, contests, and awards,” FlexWork Sports Camps writes. Each child will also receive a team photo with Nix from the camp, a T-shirt, and additional sponsored items.
Nix and his experience as a coach
This isn’t the first camp that Nix has run. Since 2021, the former Auburn Tigers’ QB has been hosting youth camps. In the past, Nix has run the QB Elevate by Nix camp. This was alongside his brother, dad, and his grandfather. All have experience as QBs.
Nix decided to stay at Oregon for his fifth year of eligibility instead of entering the 2023 NFL Draft. “There’s nothing like playing for my coaches and going to battle with my teammates. There’s nothing like being an Oregon Duck. For 2023, I’m back,” the QB claimed.
A nice change of pace
Most athletes nowadays are interested in taking part in activities that solely boost their financial status. If the deal doesn’t have to do with money, it typically involves a commercial or an endorsement of a trendy company.
It is refreshing to see athletes spend their time focused on non-field activities that involve others, not just themselves. The fact that Nix is willing to spend his time sharing his knowledge with youth who look up to him is inspiring. It reminds us that there are star players still anxious to coach the next generation of players.
The Oregon Ducks QB made an Instagram post announcing the camp in May. His fans are clearly fired up as one individual commented, “My 8-year-old has never been more fired up for something.” Another wrote “This is incredible!! This is what brings the community together!”
During just his first season with Oregon, Nix led the team to a 10-3 record. Not to mention, he threw for 3,593 yards and 29 touchdowns. It would be a shame for a talented player like him to withhold his football tips from some of his biggest fans.
Clearly, Nix is not just a threat on the field, but also off the field. Every coach should want a player like him.
