Marvin Harrison Jr. Scoring Touchdowns at McDonalds
First Round Mock’s Victoria Jonach takes a look at the special things Ohio State’s star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is doing off the field.
Marvin Harrison Jr. has established himself as a top prospect for the upcoming draft with his skills on the field. Now, the Ohio State athlete is showing a different side with his new NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) deal.
Recently, the Buckeye shared news of his partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), proving he is more than just muscle. Harrison worked the drive-thru window last Friday at a McDonalds in Columbus, Ohio.
“I am very excited to partner with such a highly respected organization like Ronald McDonald House Charities,” said Harrison Jr. “The kids and families at the House are so strong and resilient, and I am honored to work alongside them to help raise awareness and support for their mission of keeping families close.”
As part of the partnership, Harrison serves as an ambassador for the organization. He participates in events such as public service announcements, Ronald McDonald House visits, social media posts promoting the organization, and other fun activations. Harrison personally asked customers at the Columbus McDonalds if they would like to round up. However, you can round up at 14,000 other McDonald’s restaurants around the nation that are also participating.
The Cohesion Foundation’s Help
As the official sponsor of Ohio State Athletics, the Cohesion Foundation helped form this partnership. This organization helps link college athletes and charities within the Central Ohio area. Ever since July of 2021, student athletes have the opportunity to profit off of their name, image, and likeness. The Cohesion Foundation is making sure they are making the most of this opportunity and supporting groups with a good cause.
CEO and Executive Director of the Central Ohio RMHC, Dee Anders commented on Harrison’s involvement. He says, “we couldn’t be more excited to partner with Marvin Harrison Jr. He is such a wonderful young man, and we are truly honored to work alongside him to support families of seriously-ill children who need a home-away-from-home while their child is being treated in the hospital.”
How do the Ronald McDonald Houses work?
Ronald McDonald House programs provide a place to stay for families who have sick children treated far from home. Not only that, though, the RMHC understands how draining these situations can be and goes the extra mile. They provide families with the opportunity to rest and de-stress, receive support from families in similar circumstances, and eat home-cooked meals made by volunteers and RMHC staff. As a result, family members don’t have to worry about trivial matters like food shopping and typical house chores.
The program’s official website lists several ways the Houses serve families, including legitimate health benefits. Staying at a Ronald McDonald House rather than worrying about the child’s care from far away provides residents with an improved sleeping experience. Parents also report more positive hospital experiences and a greater ability to participate in their child’s care.
And with 380 Ronald McDonald Houses throughout 64 countries, families are definitely benefitting from the charity’s support.
Overall, Harrison’s participation in the project demonstrates he has the attitude and leadership skills that NFL coaches desire. It would be surprising if someone with the skills and level of selflessness that Harrison possesses was overlooked at this next year’s draft.
