FSU Pass Rusher Jared Verse Shows Explosive Brute Power

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Wow.

It is the most dynamic word in the English language, and it the perfect word to describe Seminole’s edge rusher Jared Verse.

He’s a brute through and through, and he makes former FSU pass rusher Jermaine Johnson look like he came out of a gum ball machine.

There aren’t too many of these prospects that excites me, but Verse does.

Verse can literally power offensive tackles off their feet

It was incredible watching the pure raw awesome power he shows at the initial power of attack.

Verse is like a bolt of lightning.

Verse showed time and time again he can dominate offensive tackles.

That’s the kind of power we’re talking about.

Polished pass rusher

Not only does he have that brute bull rush power, but he has quick violent hands to boot he uses once he creates the initial separation.

Verse has a signature head fake to keep tackles guessing if he is going inside or out. He has the juice to win either way.

This FSU pass rusher also showed a spin and quick swim move.

Violent defending the run

There are certain guys who look the part rushing the passer, but then they are ho-hum against the run.

That’s not this guy.

Verse can power off the big men and bang his way inside to the ball carrier.

He is a complete defensive end built for a 4-3 (four defensive linemen and three linebackers). Even though FSU stands him up off the edge at times, he shows the most power with his hands down in the dirt.

Verse is a throwback

I grew up in the 1980’s in awe of guys like Washington’s Charles Mann and Chicago’s Richard Dent. They were dominant defensive ends who both played in a 4-3, and had this same kind of brute power and energy.

Dent was the Super Bowl XX MVP.

It was a lot of fun watching Verse bulldoze his way into the pocket in these three games.

There is no question he will dominate in the National Football League.

Give me Verse over Alabama’s Will Anderson

The consensus EDGE1 is Alabama’s Will Anderson.

As someone who was hired in pro scouting by Hall of Fame Coach Bill Parcells, and as someone who has evaluated both of them, give me Verse.

Anderson has the tools, but dogs it at times and underachieves on game film.

That’s not what I want on my team.

I want someone like Verse who powerful, productive and consistent. I want the guy who is going to move the meter and be the example.

Plus, Verse has a heck of a lot more power than Anderson at the point of attack.

Verse plays with Myles Garrett type power.

Daniel Kelly’s Grade: First-Round – Early Fall 2022 Report

Note: Appeared in 15 games over two seasons at Albany (prior), recording 74 tackles, including 21.5 for loss with 14.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and one pass breakup (seminoles.com)

NFL comparable: Richard Dent and Charles Mann

2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report:

Chiseled brute power defensive end with long arms and strong desire. Can stand up or with both hands down in the dirt (4-point stance). Flip flops from side to side. Alpha-male with extreme bull rush power at the initial point of attack to create good amount separation. Maintains that awesome power from start to finish in a game. From there, uses violent and quick hands to make his move. Can win through the back door or slip inside and blow it up. Has skilled pass rushing moves and has a short-area burst into the pocket. Quarterback minded. Doesn’t win every rep, but he gives tackles everything they can handle. Drew a triple team at the end of the LSU game. Fights hard against the run half the time. Loves to smash around with the big boys inside. Wrapping tackler. Difference maker.

What to watch for during the 2022 college football season:

  1. Final sack/pressure numbers?
  2. Does he show any other pass rush moves?
  3. Snap-count?
  4. What are his tackling stats?

He’s my kind of guy, who plays the game the way it was meant to be played.
